the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will lock horns against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an important IPL 2024 clash at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru but the rain is expected to play spoilsport.
According to the weather forecast though, heavy downpours are expected on the evening of the big clash between RCB and CSK with average temperature around 24°C and humidity at around 75-80%.
The likelihood of rain disrupting the eagerly awaited match between RCB and CSK is quite high. However, a complete washout of the game is not anticipated. Fans should still be able to enjoy some action, with the DLS method potentially being employed to adjust for overs lost due to rain.
Below are the hourly temperatures and probability of rainfall in Bengaluru on matchday
7 PM: 24°C (80% chance of rain)
8 PM: 24°C (80% chance of rain)
9 PM: 23°C (70% chance of rain)
10 PM: 23°C (70% chance of rain)
11 PM: 23°C (80% chance of rain)
Remember, the Chinnaswamy Stadium boasts an excellent drainage system. It is one of the few grounds in India equipped with a subsurface aeration system, allowing play to resume 30 minutes after the rain stops.
A washout will end RCB's chances of making the playoffs. Having lost seven of their first eight games, they have won five matches in a row to stay in contention. They currently have 12 points and a net run-rate of 0.387, while CSK are on 14 with an NRR of 0.538. To surpass CSK's NRR and qualify for the playoffs, assuming a score of 200, RCB need to beat CSK by 18 runs or chase down the target with about 11 balls to spare. A shortened game will make that task more difficult.
For CSK, the equation is simple: a win, a washout, or even a narrow defeat will suffice for them to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final four.
